Match On Action

Match on action is two or more shots which are one after another edited so that the second shot continues the action of the first shot to resemble continuity.  The shots will have been filmed at different times.

For Example:


This is an example of 'match on action' used to great effect in the film Scream.  The close up shot of the same action adds to the tension of the scene.  

This video gives a good example of match on action in the famous American sitcom Friends.
